Deep-fried Wontons

>> Nov 27, 2010

I like making wontons, fried ones because I can hide prawns in them. Picky little Max just refuse to eat prawns, shrimps, crabs because these crustacean friends are just too cute to be consumed!  He has seen them swimming in the ‘live’ sea creatures tanks in Chinese Restaurants and have liken them to Sebastian the crab in the Little Mermaid!

Well, these wontons taste pretty good…and got the lil’one busily snack on them.

35-40 pcs    Wonton wrappers
100g          pork, minced
100g          prawns, minced or chopped very small
2 tsp          corn flour
1 tsp          light soy sauce
½ tsp         salt
1 tsp          sesame oil
½ tsp         shaoxing wine
A dash        pepper
2½ inch      carrot, chopped small
3 pips         garlic, chopped fine
1 ½ cups     oil

1.                 Mix minced pork and mince prawns in a bowl.
2.                 Add in corn flour, soy sauce, salt, pepper, chopped carrot and garlic.
3.                 Mix well.
4.                 Put a wonton wrapper onto your palm, using a butter knife spread a tsp of the above onto the wontons wrappers.
5.                 Bring your fingers together, so the wontons parcels 4  corners will come together too.

6.                 Fry the wontons in oil till golden brown.
7.                 Dish up and drain on paper towels.

Serve with sweet chilli sauce if preferred.
